The kings shadow
Why did you read it? Why did you finish it? Who would you recommend it to?:
This book presents England leading up to the Battle of Hastings, through the eyes of a mute boy who finds himself torn from the life he knew in Wales and sold into slavery. He rises through the ranks, eventually serving next to King Harold at the Battle of Hastings. This was a compelling read, even though I went into it knowing from history lessons that William the Conquerer would indeed conquer. It gave a great perspective on the battle and the events leading up to it, which I knew less about.
