What is Outreach Van Service?

The Community Outreach Van provides library materials inside nursing homes, senior activity centers, and senior living facilities.  This service helps meet the needs of patrons who cannot access our library buildings or the Bookmobile.  The library offers van service to facilities both as lobby stops and deposit collections.

What is the difference between lobby stops and deposit collections?

Lobby stops are mini browsing collections that make biweekly stops in area nursing homes and senior centers.  Using rolling carts, library staff set up a temporary mini library in the lobby or activity room of facilities and check out materials on the spot to patrons.

Deposit collections can be separate from lobby stops or as an additional service.  Library staff deliver a mini library to senior facilities biweekly or monthly.  Facilities are issued a special institutional library card and set up their own way of distributing or using materials.

What materials are provided by the Outreach Van?

  • Popular books (many in large print)
